Organic Cotton Fabric

GOTS is the Global Organic Textile Standard their website provides the standards and a list of approved certification bodies for organic cotton. Our organic cotton products are certified with this standard.

What is Organic Cotton?

Organic cotton uses no pesticides or chemical fertilizers in the process of growing the crop. In order to be classified as “organic”, the crop must be cultivated in soil whose fertility is maintained and replenished without the use of toxic, persistent pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Also, the soil must have been kept free from such substances for at least three years. When the organic cotton fabric is manufactured the process must also be isolated from any manufacture of items being made with non-organic fibers to prevent comtamination by airborne dust and fiber particles from non-organic textile production.

Global Market for Organic Cotton

The global market for organic cotton is growing, but still accounts for only a fraction of total cotton output. The growth is driven largely by retailers and consumers who have made the commitment to use organic cotton and by organizations that are working on implementing organic farming initiatives around the world.
